Our Store History

Austins is now in the Third generation of ownership. The retail journey began in Romford, Essex with Robert Austin, the grandfather of the current owner David Austin.

Robert Austin lost the lease on his small drapers shop in Romford, so he tasked his son Charles, to find an alternative outlet which was freehold and also adjacent to a Marks and Spencer's Penny Bazaar, having the foresight to see what would become a major retailer in the hight street.

Austins opened in NewtonAbbot on 10th March 1924, and has expanded over the years.

The rest as they say is history.
